This is the French toast recipe that Karen likes as Karen likes it.

  • 1 loaf of challah bread, manually sliced
  • Generous butter as needed

Mix into a bowl:

  • 1 tsp cinnamon
  • 1/4 tsp nutmeg (heaping)
  • 2 Tbsp 1 tsp sugar
  • 4 eggs
  • 1/4 cup milk
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla

Beat thoroughly and keep mixture well-mixed. Butter pan generously. Keep pan on medium heat level, so that butter melts but doesn’t burn. For each slice, re-mix mixture and soak slice before mixture has time to settle. Thoroughly saturate the bread.

Cook each piece of bread for 2-3 minutes per side total, flipping a bit more often to monitor. You can have multiple going at once, but track their time independently.

Serve as they come out.
